Augmentation
What is a breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enlarge and/or reshape a woman's breasts. Implants and/or fat redistribution can increase the volume, as well as creating a more appealing shape and symmetry of the breasts.
What does a breast augmentation improve?
Breast augmentation surgery can:
- Increase the size of one's breasts or restore volume to breasts that have decreased in size after pregnancy, breastfeeding or significant weight loss.
- Create a fuller, more rounded shape.
- Create symmetry for breasts that are not evenly sized.
- Reconstruct a breast that has been lost due to surgery or injury.
Breast augmentation alone cannot correct severe drooping of the breasts. A breast lift procedure can be done in conjunction with an augmentation, or separately, to address that issue.
How is the procedure performed?
There are many choices to make when it comes to breast augmentation and each procedure is individualized according to a patient's specific needs and goals. Dr. Moosavi will sit down with each patient to discuss skin incisions, which could be around the areolar, underneath the breasts, and in the armpit. He also will help you decide the design of the breast, the implants themselves and the location for implants, whether under the muscle or directly under the existing breast tissue. Each decision is made to achieve the safest, most natural aesthetic results. A breast augmentation requires anesthesia for this outpatient procedure.
What are the risks?
- Anesthesia risks
- Infection
- Bleeding/Blood clotting issues
- Change in sensation
- Implant leakage or rupture
- Wrinkling over skin over implant
- Fluid accumulation
- Undesirable scarring
- Pain
- Unsatisfactory results
What can be expected after the surgery?
Will I have bandages/drainage tubes?
Your breasts will likely be wrapped in gauze with an elastic bandage or support bra to minimize swelling during the healing process.
How soon return to work?
It's recommended to take it easy for several days after surgery to prevent leakage. All cases are different, so patients must heed the advice of their physician before returning to work.
How soon will I see results?
It could take a few weeks to reach final results, after the swelling subsides. Incision scarring could take several months or longer to fade.
Is a breast augmentation covered by insurance?
A breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery and is not covered by insurance companies.
